Day 3 Asakusa, the Sky Tree and Electric city
Started the day by going to the Buddhist Temple at Asukusa. As we left the the train we were greeted by the gates of the Temple. Beyond the gates and before you reached the actual temple was a row of tourist shops. These shops had just about every Japanese souvenir
that has been made and not well. But on the bright side we found a shot glass for one of Mark's co-workers. Also before the temple one should cover their head with incense to make themselves smarter ( did not work) but I smelled good afterwards. Rik, Mai and I bought fortunes as well, once again my was bad and I had to tie to a post to prevent having it come true!! The Temple and grounds were also very nice. From there we ate a shrimp tempura the area is famous for and then hopped the train to the Sky Tree. The Sky Tree is the larges tower in Tokyo, just opened, with a mall. It was so busy tickets were sold out until 5p, so we went to the mall. In the mall besides stores was a display of all things Japanese, very interesting. The two most crowded places were the Hello Kitty store and the fake food store, once again , very interesting. One more stop before dinner and that was to Electric City. Electric city is the area for all things anime and and the girl group AKB48. AKB 48 is a group of 48 young women who sing pop songs and are very popular. On this day was the number one singer's farewell to the group before going out on her own. The place was mobbed with kids and camera crews. Not to mention girls dressed as anime characters hawking their bars, The entire area was very colorful and a lot of fun. By by this time we all has sore feet and empty pockets so we headed back to the hotel for a rest and then dinner.
We ate at a German brew house of all places with German food heavily influenced by Japanese food. I think I will stick to Japanese food from now on! DAy 3 went fast now on to Kyoto tomorrow!
